Museum Belfort Sluis
In the charming centre of Sluis stands a remarkable historic landmark: the Belfort van Sluis, the only belfry in the Netherlands. Built during the 14th and 15th centuries, this impressive structure remains a symbol of the rich history and pride of the town.
Originally, a belfry was a medieval Flemish bell tower whose bells were rung to announce important events such as fires, approaching enemy armies or the proclamation of new laws. Later, the tower became part of the town hall and evolved into a symbol of urban pride, prestige and authority.
Today, the Belfry is one of the main attractions in Sluis and a must-see for visitors interested in history, culture and architecture. A visit to Sluis is simply not complete without admiring this unique monument.
